Mrvan Means Families First

I’m running for Congress because we need someone with a proven record of bringing people together. As an elected official, I didn’t sit in an office. Instead, I looked into the eyes of men, women, and children—some who lost their jobs, their homes to flooding, or even their innocence to sexual predators. That was unacceptable for me. I took swift action to form alliances, secure funding and new legislation that put Indiana families first.

With your support, I’ll fight to build a strong, thriving economy for everyone. I’ll protect and advocate for our veterans, seniors, and our healthcare. Together we’ll find public education opportunities, common-sense safety for communities, and improve our quality of place.

LET’S BE FRANK ABOUT

The issues.

The issues.

Let’s Build a Strong Economy for Everyone

Northwest Indiana’s strength is its proximity to Chicago and its transportation network. Given our interstates, freight rail, and commuter rail, our region is poised to capitalize on the success of our location and our infrastructure. More work needs to be done, and I will champion investments in our roads, bridges, and waterways in Congress to support the economic investments our communities are pursuing.

Collectively, it is imperative we work together in Northwest Indiana to ensure the creation of increased employment opportunities that pay a living wage remains at the forefront of these conversations, as these investments move from design to construction to beyond.

With Your Support I Will:

  • Work with partners to create new opportunities, that may attract manufacturers of solar roof tiles, panels, electric car charging stations and wind turbines can flourish, re-purposing idle urban properties and employing a new generation of proud union workers.
  • Push for the long-promised infrastructure bill to comprehensively revitalize bridges, roads, rail, and airports while reimagining trade routes and transportation. Not only will this reinvigorate the region’s trade unions, but it will also prepare the region for reinvestment.
  • Work with all federal, state, and local stakeholders in partnership to ensure the regional economic growth entrusted within the RDA comes to fruition.

  • Embrace tax-base sharing as a way for the large industry in one community to boost revenues for all.
Let’s Break Barriers to Healthcare

Congress has yet to craft a workable plan for getting–and keeping–Americans healthy. Despite access to Affordable Care, 828,000 Hoosiers cannot afford health insurance and do not qualify for Medicaid or HIP.

With Your Support I Will:

  • Champion legislation providing an affordable Medicare option that phases-in over time.
  • Institute comprehensive reforms that allow health insurance to follow the individual in the event of drastic changes in employment or health status.
  • Create a government plan that allows for bulk purchasing of pharmaceuticals at competitive rates mirroring costs in Canada or Germany.
  • Improve preventive care programs by supporting a national Get Healthy campaign for all.
Let’s Safeguard Our Waterways

I support the initiatives and funding for our waterways through the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Act (GLRI) and the Water Resource Development Act(WRDA).
