Merrillville, IN – Today, Frank Mrvan called on Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb to improve the ability of all residents of Northwest Indiana and the State of Indiana to cast a mail-in ballot this primary election.

Specifically, Frank Mrvan called on the Governor to require each county to proactively mail a ballot to every registered voter and remove the current requirement that all individuals fill out an application in order to receive a mail-in ballot.

The letter stated, “It is imperative that the voices of all residents in all communities are heard in this primary election. There is no need for individuals to not have their voice heard due to health fears or complicated mail-in ballot procedures. Let us take this opportunity to show how in the midst of such a challenging circumstance that we can increase the ability of all voters to have their voice heard in our democratic process.”

Below is a copy of the complete letter.

Dear Governor Holcomb:

I write today to ask that you take every effort to improve the ability of all residents of Northwest Indiana and our entire state to be able to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming primary election.

Specifically, I would encourage you to require each county to proactively mail a ballot to every registered voter and remove the current requirement that all individuals fill out an application in order to receive a mail-in ballot.

During this challenging health crisis, individuals and families are focused on doing their part to follow the Stay-At-Home Order and keep themselves and families safe and healthy.  We should do our part to easily facilitate their participation in our democratic process by ensuring that their ability to have their voice heard in the primary election is as simple and safe as possible.

With the closure of libraries, government offices, schools, and other business facilities, there are far too many residents who may not have access to the ability to properly print, fill out, and mail-in their application for a mail-in ballot.

I also would encourage you to provide additional resources and oversight to county election offices so that they can properly ensure that these ballots are distributed in a timely fashion and that the receipt and tallying process occurs with the utmost precision and security.

It is imperative that the voices of all residents in all communities are heard in this primary election.  There is no need for individuals to not have their voice heard due to health fears or complicated mail-in ballot procedures.  Let us take this opportunity to show how in the midst of such a challenging circumstance that we can increase the ability of all voters to have their voice heard in our democratic process.

Thank you for your consideration of this request, and for your unwavering direction and leadership of our state during this challenging time.  Should you wish to further discuss this request or my perspectives on how the current process impacts voters in Northwest Indiana, please do not hesitate to contact me at any time at 219-736-2100.

Sincerely,

Frank J. Mrvan
